We wish you a happy new year and hope that you are all keeping well. We wanted to give you an update regarding student sport following the Government’s most recent announcements for Coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions.

As you will know, under the new national lockdown laws, no sporting activity is permitted to take place at this time, and we received confirmation yesterday from BUCS that this latest update has led to them confirming cancellation of the proposed league and knockout programme for 2020-21. The only exception to this is for the outdoor cricket programme which is provisionally scheduled for Term 3. All individual events have been postponed until 1st March at the earliest, with further information available on the individual sport pages on BUCS’ website. We will be in touch with the clubs where activity is still provisionally scheduled as soon as we can.

When the current Government guidance changes, we will be sure to review the requirements and permissions for sport and, as we have throughout the year, do everything possible to get some form of student sport up and running within the guidance, if and when this can be done.

Whilst face-to-face sport cannot currently take place, it’s incredibly important to remain active for your physical and mental wellbeing. Sport England provide a useful summary of what activity you can do within the current guidelines, and we’ve compiled some fantastic resources to help you keep active. Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing ideas on how to stay active via our social media channels, so make sure you follow them for the latest updates. (@SportStMarys; @Stmaryssu) If you have any resources – or want to help us to create resources – that we can share, please get in touch with us.

We look forward to seeing you all soon, please continue to stay safe, and do contact us if you have any further queries or concerns.
