Freshers 2020 Update #2

This year, we put over 80% of our Freshers’ schedule online to keep you safe and to ensure that most of our events would always stay within the government’s rules and regulations. After Monday’s change in the government guidelines concerning COVID, people now can’t gather in groups of more than six.

Unfortunately our larger on-campus physical Freshers’ events will be almost impossible to run whilst complying with this new rule, and as a result we’ve had to make some changes to the schedule. To keep you safe and to ensure we’re able to comply with this new rule at all times, we’ve had to make the following adjustments:

  • Welcome Picnic and Battle of the Halls events are cancelled
  • Our Black Lives Matter speech and Jason Arday Motivational Speech are now being held via Zoom without in-person attendance

It’s still possible to run some of our smaller-scale events - on campus, we will still be going ahead our Yoga At Sunset event. Off campus, The Shack, Richmond Boat House and Active 360 Paddleboarding are all able to manage their event capacities more easily than we can and have shared their plans on how they would make their events work with the new rules. Because of this, Crazy Golf, River Thames Rowing and Paddleboarding will still be going ahead with additional controls in place to control capacities and prevent groups larger than six attending. When attending these events, please comply with the government guidelines at all times and wear a mask on public transport in order to keep yourself, your friends and our local community safe.

All of our other events (more than 80% of the schedule) are running unchanged – you can read more about our Freshers' 2020 schedule here. We have some more really exciting additions to announce later, so check back for those! We will keep you updated if any other changes need to be made to the schedule.

We can’t wait to see you when Freshers’ kicks off on September 21st.
