We know that staying home isn't ideal, but we're all in this together. That's why we're bringing the St Mary's community together by running as many events as we can to connect you with your fellow students.

We'll release the programme for each week every Sunday, and will be trying to put on events as often as possible. Below is the current schedule for events this week - if you have ideas for events, please contact daisy.renouf@stmarys.ac.uk and we'll do our best to make your ideas into a reality!

We're also currently on the lookout for sports clubs, fitness instructors or just enthusiastic students to run our Workout Wednesdays events. If you're interested in helping us with this, please email joe.garvey@stmarys.ac.uk.

Tuesday 31 March - Pub Quiz - 7pm, Instagram

We know you’re missing The Bar’s Tuesday night Pub Quiz, but don’t worry - we’re bringing it to your sofa! On Instagram stories we’re going to be asking you questions for a change, and we’ll make sure to make the winning team/player Instagram famous. You can team up to answer these questions via video chat or answer the questions on your own - it’s totally up to you. To submit your answers, you need to use this link.

Only one rule - no cheating!

Wednesday 1 April - Workout Wednesday - Yogarelease with Louisa  - 2pm, Instagram

Every Workout Wednesday we'll be bringing you a home workout that's possible in almost any space, with no equipment. There's no excuse not to keep moving even when you're at home! We'll be posting this workout every week on our IGTV at 2pm.

This week we've got yoga expert Yoga Release with Louisa giving a yoga lesson. This week, Louisa will be focusing on the child's pose and the lesson is suitable for everyone including beginners. Here's a bit of information about Louisa...

"My personal and continued journey of being a yoga student & teacher allows me to learn, develop, and share wider, routes to access this whole practice with others. Through tried, tested and studied methods I try to offer accessible tools for each individual, understanding and supporting that each human is unique and that no matter what age, ability or experience there really is something for everyone in the all-encompassing elements of Yoga.

All classes offer a balanced yoga practice, originating from modified Ashtanga, Vinyasa flow with attention to the breath, mindfulness & meditation, modifications for ease and stability, strengthening, alignment and injury rehab.

I teach teens & adults and a variety of styles from power flow, yoga for athletes, chair yoga, yoga for bone density, Yin, Yang and more."

Wednesday 1 April - House Party hangout - 3pm, House Party

Have you used House Party yet? It’s a great new app which makes keeping social super easy - anyone is welcome to join a chat on it, so it’s a bit more like a conversation in real life where people can come and go as they please.

At 3pm on Wednesday, our Officer Team will be hanging out and available to chat about anything you like - if you have questions about what's going on at University they'll be able to answer them, but if you're not in the mood for that then there are loads of fun games on it like pictionary, Heads Up and more so there’s plenty to keep you occupied! To get started and join the chat, download House Party and then add Nat Hobkirk on @Nathobkirk1 and Jack Ritchie on @JackRitchie2.

We know that there have been rumours about House Party, but there's no evidence to suggest that these are true. Here's an article explaining that situation - we wouldn't expect anyone to sign up to it if they didn't feel comfortable, but we'll still be using it for this session unless we receive evidence that indicates any wrongdoing.

Thursday 2 April - Netflix Watch Party - 5.30pm, Netflix Party

We're hosting a Netflix Party on Thursday where we're watching a mystery film which we’ll be voting for on Tuesday through our Instagram account - to vote for what we’re watching, make sure you’re following us here. This week's film is Legally Blonde!

Netflix Party is a great way of watching a film with your friends - all you need to do to join the party is to click here to install the Netflix Party extension to your Google Chrome browser (you've got to use Google Chrome). It's a really simple process but please do DM us @stmaryssu if you have issues!

We'll post the link to watch along with us at 5pm today, and we'll start the film at 5.45pm to give you a bit of time to get set up. Get the popcorn ready!

Friday 3 April - The FIFA 20 Simmies Cup - 4pm - PS4

We’ve had loads of students asking us about this one, so we’re making it happen.

Are you bored of the pathetic efforts that your friends make to challenge you on FIFA? Are you sick of feeble competition online? Do you want to be the official FIFA 20 Simmies Cup Champion and have bragging rights over every single FIFA player at uni? THIS is your only chance!

If you’re interested in entering, email smsu@stmarys.ac.uk or DM us by 6pm on Thursday 2 April with your PS4 or Xbox handle (we’ll try and accommodate both platforms, but PS4 will be the default as we know more students have these), email and phone number (for a whatsapp group which will help us to organise the tournament). We’ll then post the tournament structure online and pit you against each other.

We don’t know whether the full tournament will be played out on Friday or if it will spill out into other days, as it all depends on who’s competing - so tell your friends and we’ll let you know when we have our competitors list in.

Also - if you’re interested in starting an E-Sports society, we’d LOVE to hear from you. Jack is our Student Life President and he’ll be helping to run this tournament, so contact him at studentlifepresident@stmarys.ac.uk if you’re keen on that - only students can start a new society, so we need you to kick things off!
