Nelly's Manifesto

Hello I am Nelly Kibirige, MA Diplomacy/International Relations student and course rep. I also had the privilege of serving LSBU students as their first ever two-term Students’ Union President, making me NUS Lead delegate for two years and delegate a year before. With 3+ years’ experience of working with NUS, I sat on the Welfare Committee developing policy, submitting, debating/challenging motions and taken part in the National presidential elections.

Last year, my contributions to the student loans policy were published in a Parliamentary article, following my successful campaign calling for an APPG on student funding which was attended by MPs.

As your delegate, I aim to double down and focus on making the NUS less of a petty, factional organisation and more of a relevant, progressive, membership organisation that is successful in fighting for students and delivering value for your membership fees.

Why Me?

  • For years, delegates have attended conference and voted with no accountability. If elected, I will listen to what you have to say and vote your way.
  • On countless occasions the NUS denied students the opportunity to decide NUS policy. I will vote for One Student One Vote that will give YOU the power to ensure that NUS policy is made by all students, not just a cliquey few.
  • Historically, NUS voted for motions which had little/no relevance for students; a waste of valuable time! Motions should be used to discuss student-focused policies. I will abstain on motions where appropriate, which have nothing to do with students.
