Return of Recreational Sport

Friday 26-03-2021 - 17:55

We are pleased to inform you that as a result of the Government “Roadmap out of Lockdown”, Sport St Mary’s and St Mary’s Students’ Union have been developing our SIMMSactive programme to provide students with new safe opportunities to get active, in line with the most recent guidance and restrictions.

We recognise how crucial staying active is for your health and wellbeing and will be delivering a wide range of sessions. All SIMMSactive sessions are recreational and facilitate fun sporting activity for those attending; the sessions are all free of charge and open to students of all abilities so no membership will be required. Each activity will adhere to the necessary Government guidance and to sport-specific National Governing Body guidelines.

So that the sessions do not exceed the maximum numbers and to track who is participating, you must book your participation using our online system prior to arrival and you will not be able to attend any session without a booking confirmation.

The first sessions will begin on Monday 29 March and can be booked up to seven days in advance using our online booking system. The programme will be running over the Easter break and will continue in the first instance until Friday 16 April. We currently have a huge range of days and times available, and activities include football, netball, touch rugby, volleyball, rounders and more. Please note, if booked into SIMMSactive Netball at Teddington Lock, please coordinate your group to arrange collection of the gate key – instructions can be found in the terms and conditions.

We have a range of useful guides, including how to create an online account, how to book a session and more on our Return to Sport page. Terms and conditions for all sessions can also be found online.

This first stage of the roadmap supports outdoor sport and physical activity to restart, and as we can progress through the stages, we hope to see a phased return to full sport. The SIMMSactive sessions will provide an ideal ‘first step’ for you to be safe, stay active and have fun.

All of the activities being offered are currently permitted and all sessions will be kept under constant review to ensure we are adhering to the appropriate guidelines. Please ensure you stay up to date with our announcements via our social media channels (Sport St Mary’s & Students’ Union) and SIMMSpace.

As per government requirements you should minimise the number of journeys you are making and avoid travelling during peak hours and on busy routes. However, travel for sport and exercise is permitted.

For any questions regarding the SIMMSactive programme, or booking onto sessions, please contact sportsvillage@stmarys.ac.uk
