The story of Simmies' Big Brother!

Wednesday 04-02-2015 - 13:41

Two weeks ago during SMSU RAG Week we took a group of nine students and put them through a gruelling 24-hour day in the Simmies' Big Brother House! It was all in the name of charity of course - overall, Simmies Big Brother raised an incredible £724.89 for our Rag Week charities. These were Unicef, the Injured Players' Foundation and Children in Need. We'd like to invite you to relax and join us as we take a look back through what went on!

10 housemates entered the House - Ryan Boon, Trudy Bryan-Kerr, Sarah Cadden, Laura Condon, Dervala Doran, Mia Geoffrey, Ryan Jones, Zander Lavall, Conor Boylan Lee and Laura Timmins. The winner would be the housemate who received the most money in their charity bucket, so it was all up to the students watching to decide a winner!

It all started with the Simmies' Big Brother Pub Quiz, where our Tuesday Night Pub Quiz winners got to evict a housemate on top of the usual prizes they won! They chose to evict Zander Lavall, who only lasted for 30 minutes in the House. This was shortly followed by the Big Brother Karaoke contest, which was won by Sarah Cadden - she was rewarded with a nice, refreshing drink from the bar while her housemates looked on in envy! It was then time for our first Diary Room session where our housemates vented their frustrations and worries. Conor Lee provided a particularly expressive description of his time in the House...

After more excitement with another amazing dance task, it was almost time for bed...

Big Brother then let the housemates sleep for a little while... until a half-hour alarm went off at 4am, that is. Oops! At 8 the next morning, our previous Athletics Union President Pietro Palladino was invited back into the SU Lounge to give our housemates a run around.

It was a gruelling session...

Ryan Boon won this task in the end, earning himself some breakfast from the Ref. Shortly after this task, the first housemate to be evicted based on the funds inside each of the housemates' charity buckets was revealed, and Laura Condon was evicted.

After this, we treated the housemates to some fun and games in the form of pass the parcel! Throughout the task, housemates won lots of lovely food for lunch, and soft drinks from the bar. Dervala was super-excited to be the last housemate to open the final envelope that was hidden inside the parcel... until she realised what was inside!

Mia Geoffrey decided to leave the house at 3PM, which meant there were only 5 housemates left. The next task was designed to bring out our Housemates' artistic skills... check out the winning drawing below! What do you think of Trudy's effort?

The next task involved our housemates teaming up to write and perform their own songs in front of an expectant crowd in the SU Lounge. Check out their efforts here! The winning team was decided by the crowd - it was then revealed that this 'winning' team would have to choose a member of the losing team to evict. Ryan Jones was picked, after which there were only 4 flatmates left!

The final task was a dance off competition between two teams. Ryan Boon and Sarah Cadden were paired together to fight against Conor Lee and Trudy Bryan-Kerr. The winning dance was Conor and Trudy's - make sure you check it out, it really is a sight to behold! From here, the person with the lowest fundraising total on the losing team was evicted, who was Ryan Boon. After this it was Trudy who had the least money in her bucket, which left just Conor and Sarah in the house.

Eventually at 7.30, the winner was announced...

She raised over £150, which was an incredible effort. We'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our housemates and everyone who donated money to them. Once again, our students proved what a wonderfully generous bunch they are!
