Angelina Verbeek

Hi! I'm Angelina Verbeek, but most people on campus know me as Angel. I have been at St Mary's University for 4 and a half years now, first doing my foundation year, then my BA in Creative Writing and now my MSc in Marketing. I am running for Education president because I am passionate about improving the educational lives of the students at this university, as someone who has been here for 5 years, but is also your current Inclusion Vice President.

Angelina's Manifesto

1. Improving Resources For Students

  • By offering more digital copies of resources students require for their courses and/or modules, ensuring that students can still proceed in their studies when the physical copies are unavailable in the library, especially when the module has a lot of students.

2. Ensure Fair Workload

  • By ensuring that assessment deadlines don't clash with other assessments and/or academic commitments, and continuing with workshops on how to use AI to support students, and discouraging the use of generative AI to do assignments, e.g. essays.

3. Expanding Knowledge About Course Reps

  • By providing information and guidance to potential course reps early on.

4. Improving Mental Health Services

  • By expanding on what has been done this year, offering counselling sessions to students, ensuring more contact with personal tutors, and encouraging students to seek support when mental health issues arise.

5. Improve Student Impact

  • By responding to student feedback and having drop-in sessions

Why Vote For Me?

I believe you should vote for me, as I have been made aware of the feedback that the students wish to let the SU and the university handle, from being told this by the student reps and from the years I have been here. I will also keep in mind that although academics are an important part of our education, it is also important to know that our mental well-being affects our education as well, whether it is affected by our academics or not.
