Dear Varsity attendees
We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday 27 March for the West London Varsity. We’re emailing to detail a few bits of key information that you’ll need to know on the day.
Ticket collection
You must collect your West London Varsity T-shirt before tomorrow (Tuesday 26 March) at 4pm. There can be no exceptions to this rule. If you can’t make it onto campus before 4pm tomorrow, you can send a photo of your Student ID to a fellow student, and they can pick it up on your behalf.
Buses
On Wednesday morning, we’re running buses to Brunel which are included in your ticket price. You’ll need to be wearing your Varsity T-shirt and you’ll need to show your student ID to get on the bus – so make sure that you bring both.
If you’re competing at Varsity, your club/team will have been allocated a spot on a certain bus on the day. Please speak to your Club President about this if this applies to you.
Buses will be leaving at 7am, 8am, 9am, 9.30am and 10am – but if you’re not part of a sports club, in order to guarantee a space on one of our buses you will need to arrive at Student Square (the Courtyard between the K and J blocks) before 8am. If you arrive after this time, we cannot guarantee you a space on any bus.
If you leave anything on the bus, we cannot guarantee that you’ll find it again as some of the buses may be making other trips during the day (they don’t stay at Brunel). With this in mind, please check carefully to make sure that you don’t leave anything on the bus.
On the way back, buses will be leaving at 5.30pm, 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm. We would again advise that you get the earliest bus that you can – it’s always busier later on.
Parking/making your own way
If you are making your own way to Brunel’s campus, this is no problem – but you will need to liaise with Brunel directly about your parking arrangements on the day. You can call them on +44 (0)1895 274000. If you are driving, you should aim to enter via Uxbridge Road as the other entrance on Kingston Lane is blocked.
Fixtures list and map
The most up-to-date fixtures list and map will always be here.
Indoor and outdoor venues
Indoor venues on the day will get very busy. Capacity inside them is limited, so we would advise arriving to indoor fixtures as early as you possibly can. This is especially applicable when it comes to fixtures happening later on in the day, as these will fill up. We will be livestreaming indoor fixtures through a link that will be available through our website and social media, and you can also watch indoor fixtures at Loco’s (which is Brunel’s Students’ Union Bar). You can find this on the map in the previous link.
Social media
If you’re posting about Varsity on the day, please use the hashtag #WLV19 and tag @stmaryssu whenever possible – we would love to see all of your posts and stories, and will share everything that we can on the day! You can also tag @sportstmarys and @yourstmarys which are the Sport St Mary’s and official St Mary’s accounts.
Alcohol
As always, we would encourage you to drink responsibly on the day. It’s a long one, so make sure that you drink plenty of water throughout. If you have more than 4 cans worth of alcohol on Brunel’s campus on the day, these may be confiscated – and Brunel’s security team will always reserve the right to confiscate alcohol from students on the day if you appear to be intoxicated. Cans will not be allowed into indoor fixtures, and glass bottles of any kind will be instantly confiscated if security see them on the day.
The Afterparty
The official West London Varsity afterparty is happening at the Viper Rooms! Your T-shirt is your ticket for this, and you’ll also get onto the return bus transport to the Viper Rooms with that T-shirt.
If you have any further questions, please call us before the day on 0208 240 2377 or email back to us – but bear in mind that on the day we won’t be responsive as we’ll be with you on Brunel’s campus. There’s also an FAQ on our website here.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday – let’s bring the trophy home!
Thanks
Aly
