It’s that time of year again when we celebrate and recognise all the students who have made outstanding contributions to the student experience at St Mary's!
All winners will receive a certificate and prize and all nominees will receive an e-certificate (printed upon request). All registered nominees and attendees will be given 1 x free glass of prosecco, or a soft drink of your choice!

The Undergraduate Course Rep of the Year award recognises an undergraduate course rep who has effectively represented students at Student/Staff forums and Big Rep Meetings, is a role model for their Faculty/Institute and SMSU, and demonstrates a positive attitude towards students and staff whilst showing a real desire to improve students’ academic experience.
The Postgraduate Course Rep of the Year award recognises a postgraduate course rep who has effectively represented students at Student/Staff forums and Big Rep Meetings, is a role model for their Faculty/Institute and SMSU, and demonstrates a positive attitude towards students and staff whilst showing a real desire to improve students’ academic experience.
The Subject Chair of the Year award recognises a Subject Chair who has gone above and beyond as the lead student representative for their Faculty/Institute, demonstrates a passion for improving students’ academic experience, and is a dedicated SMSU team member who has attended and promoted academic engagement events.
The Outstanding Contribution to Inclusion award recognises an individual or group who has been a committed member of SMSU and shown great passion and leadership on EDI issues.
The Society of the Year award recognises a society that demonstrates effective administration and organisation, helps to build a positive image of SMSU/St Mary’s, can evidence the support of other clubs/societies and/or adopts charitable fundraising, and demonstrates good behaviour and attitude in all activities.
The Most Improved Society of the Year award recognises a society that has shown an increase in membership, improvement in administration, involvement in the wider St Mary’s community, and improvement in reach and achievement.
The New Society of the Year award recognises a society that, as a new society, demonstrates effective administration and organisation, helps to build a positive image of SMSU/St Mary’s, can evidence the support of other clubs/societies and/or adopts charitable fundraising, demonstrates good behaviour and attitude in all activities, and has gained members to provide longevity.
The Most Charitable Society of the Year award recognises a society that has led innovative fundraisers for charitable causes.
The Committee Member of the Year award recognises a committee member that maintains effective administration of their society, is a role model for the society and SMSU, and demonstrates support for other clubs/societies and SMSU.
The Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising award recognises a student or group that has gone above and beyond with regards to fundraising either as part of their club/society or as an individual.
The Student Leaders Award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond during their time at St Mary’s to improve the experience for their peers. Recipients need to have shown exemplary leadership skills and demonstrated that their work has benefitted fellow students, the wider community, and their future employment.
The Changemaker of the Year award recognises a student or student group that is passionate about making a change on campus and beyond. They may have contributed to campaigns, student life, fundraising, volunteering, or community-based activity.
The winner will have gone above and beyond in a number of roles and will be an ambassador for the work and values of the Students’ Union. They will be a champion for improving the student experience on campus.
The winner will have gone above and beyond in their employment as a staff member of SMSU or St Mary’s University.
This award is for any student who has faced and overcome various challenges, excelling against the odds. It recognises and celebrates resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.
This award is for any student who has stood out for a particular moment or act in which they made a real difference through kindness, or who has devoted themselves to supporting their peers socially, academically, or pastorally. It recognises those who foster a strong sense of community at St Mary’s.
This award is for any student who has made a standout effort to commute to campus, going the distance to engage with St Mary’s.
This award is for an outstanding individual student whose contribution across SMU has gone above and beyond in embodying the four core University values.
This award is for Student Ambassadors who have done an excellent job and have been exemplary regular and WP ambassadors for St Mary’s.
This award is for any Student Ambassador in their first year who has shown consistent commitment, enthusiasm, and support in the role.
This award recognises a student Senior Resident on campus for their outstanding support to students living on campus.
