Jonathan's Manifesto

Hi, I’m Jonathan Goss. A lot of you might know me from my past couple years as a senior resident in Graham Hall, or through my work in the university bar. I believe I can support students through academic issues as your education president, fighting your corner in all forms of educational appeal. I want St Mary’s to be an accessible university where anyone can learn and build their future, and I plan to deliver that vision. Below are my main manifesto points:

Student development

  • Access to entrepreneurship support, to allow students to create and develop their own businesses with professional support and backing
  • An expansion of alumni networks, potentially allowing for professional mentorship

Accessibility

  • Documents and publicity available in multiple languages
  • Improved online library system
  • Expansion of lecture recording
  • More transparency in academic appeals
  • An examination of when food service begins and ends, and how this may impact courses with long hours like primary ed and acting
  • Make university mental health services more visible, they are an extremely important service some students miss, and additional signposting could save lives

Communication

  • Constant student feedback through a dedicated online system, allowing students to get their views to the SU at any time, with an added public board allowing for students to vote on realistic proposals
  • Brief regular updates similar to the current ones seen on the SU team Instagram, discussing what the SU are doing and their progress with student initiatives

You can vote for Jonathan or any of our candidates from 8 March - 12 March - just head here on that date. It takes 2 minutes and it's crucial that we get as many votes as possible to ensure that SMSU is fully representative of our student body.
