Thames Water want to build an abstraction plant near Teddington Weir (St Mary's backyard!) which would take water out of the Thames in drought conditions and replace it with treated sewage. 

A parliamentary e-petition has been formally published, which would give us the power to demand change at the highest level, but only with your support. Our petition asks the UK Government to: Ensure new sewage treatment infrastructure meets higher standards, as in the EU.

This national ask is the most effective way to stop damaging local schemes like the Teddington Direct River Abstraction (TDRA) scheme and protect all UK water bodies for future generations.

I believe St Marys university should get behind this petition as a key player in the local community and key stakeholders in the local environment. Together, the student body can make a real difference!
