Manayka's Manifesto

Hello everyone, my name is Manayka and I’m a second year sports science student. I was born and raised in the UAE where I then came to study my A levels in the U.K. I have 2 younger sisters who are incredibly irritating at times but who are the reason for my drive and passion for change in education and sports because of their experiences. When I experience “inconvenient” situations I don’t like to believe it will cause much harm to myself but over the past few years I’ve realised the extent of how other individuals are effected. This has resulted to me being extremely proactive around uni for the past 2 years to show my dedication and commitment to making SMU a better place; I have been involved as an equality and inclusion student representative, a course representative, a student engagement representative as well as a PAL leader, student panel advisor and a dedicated student to support the assault and harassment campaign (ItsNeverOk). Being involved in these roles has allowed me to empathise for students and only push me to do more. There is a lot of power that comes with this role and it should be given to someone who’s confident in making decisions with good intentions for everyone. If I could represent SMSU, I would make the best decisions for the better of all SMU students.
