Health and Safety

It is essential that for everything your society runs that you write an accurate risk assessment and submit to SMSU before your activity takes place. You can use the template Master Risk Assessment to help you when writing a risk assessment.

If planning a trip, please also complete a Travel and Trips Risk Assessment and attach it to the activity form.

Whilst they may seem complicated at first, they are straightforward once you get the hang of it.

Risk assessments have four key parts:

  • Hazard - what poses the risk?
  • Who could be harmed and h
  • Control measures - what will you do to control the risk?
  • Risk rating - severity multiplied by likelihood

If you need further guidance or help fillling out a risk assesment, feel free to book a meeting with the Student Opportunities Coordinator: Here!
